Luke Johnson enumerated the Wheelers Grove area on September 28, 1850, beginning with Dwelling #543.  He concluded on September 29 with Dwelling #552.  There may be an overlap of Farm Creek, Macedonia and Wheeler’s Grove.  The following families with their age and occupation were listed.   Corrected names are listed in parenthesis and typed in bold.

Emily Sophia Lathrop was first married to Joseph Jefferson Frink in 1824.  After the birth of 4 children, the couple were probably divorced.  Emily then married Henry Hoagland in 1842.  They had two children.  Henry died in 1846.  Emily then married Michael Jacobs in 1846.  Michael was married previously.  On the 1840 U. S. Census, it shows a male child which was probably Erastus V. Jacobs who was born in 1822.  Emily probably died at Wheelers Grove in 1850.  Michael was a Seventy and may have been on a mission in Nebraska when he died in 1850.

Sybil Jacobs (age 60) (Sarah Bliss Lathrop Jacobs) (mother of Emily Sophia Lathrop Frink Hoagland Jacobs)

Sybil was first married to Grant Lathrop.  He died in 1823.  She then married Henry Jacobs in 1838 while in Lee County, Iowa.  He died in Nauvoo in 1844.  Sybil moved to Riverside County, California where she died in 1879.

S. Census, she, along with her father, were living with the Wilson A. Scott family in Polk County, Iowa.

Miller/John W. Cooley Company in 1853.  He died in 1854.  His wife and children were located in Alton City, Madison County, Illinois on the 1860 U. S. Census.

Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

A Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was established at Wheeler’s Grove, Pottawattamie County, Iowa on April 29, 1862.  The Branch was organized and named by Charles Derry.  Upon organization, 10 members were present.  John Smith served as President with Levi Graybill, Assistant and E. W. Knapp, Clerk.  By 1863, there were 24 members.  A. J. Field was appointed President from 1869-1870 and then James Newberry served as President from 1870-1872.  The Branch was disorganized in 1894 when the Carson Branch was founded.   The following were members of the Branch and known to have resided in Wheelers Grove (1).

Winegar was the son of Samuel Thomas and Rhoda Elizabeth Cummings Winegar.  Elizabeth Martha Smith was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Martha Koons Smith.  They lived at Wheelers Grove where they raised eleven children.  They are both buried in the Mormon Cemetery, Macedonia, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
