It appears that Luke Johnson went from Macedonia Camp to enumerate Pleasant Valley for the 1850 U. S. Census on November 8th. It is possible that he began with Dwelling #990 and concluded with on November 10th with Dwelling #1019. As with other adjacent settlements, he came back through Pleasant Valley and possibly Dwelling #1117 thru #1135 were also part of this settlement. Thomas went west to Utah in the John W. Berry Company in 1858. Mary Ann moved to Neola, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Pleasant Valley Branch Tithing Records
The Pleasant Valley Branch Tithing Records have provided a list of possible residents. The record was kept in 1848 and from 1851 to 1852. Forty-four individuals were listed on those records (2). By at least December 31, 1848, Martin Bushman was Branch President of Pleasant Valley. One volume was used by Bishop John Horn and was transferred to Bishop Edward R. Walker in November 1851. Bishop Walker kept two volumes, a daybook and a journal, for 1851-1852. The daybook bears an inscription indicating that Walker was bishop "over the Pleasant Valley, Mill, Pleasant Grove, & Brownell’s Grove Branches in Pottawattamie County, Iowa" (3).

Elizabeth’s husband, James Whitesides, had died in 1842—also in Montrose. They had 5 children, 3 were still living. They came west with the John B. Walker Company in 1852.

On 18 April 1849, Isaac Jeliff Carpenter was married to Nancy Adaline Perkins by Apostle Ezra Taft Benson in the home of Ute Perkins, Nancy’s brother (7).
Orson Hyde, also an Apostle, performed a marriage ceremony on 5 May 1850 for Lewis Whitesides and Sussanah (Susannah) Perkins, another of Ute’s sisters, in Pleasant Valley (8).

Harriet died in 1852. On the 1856 Iowa State Census, Francis had remarried and his wife’s name was Elizabeth. She is not on the 1860 U. S. Census. Francis is listed as a salon keeper in Council Bluffs. No further records are found for Francis.
