Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (RLDS) created a branch at Farm Creek on October 16, 1859. This was one of the first RLDS Church branches to be established in southwestern Iowa. About 24 members were organized into the branch—those in red type were the original members. It was organized by Edmund Briggs. He and W. W. Blair had been sent of a missionary journey across southern Iowa in the summer of 1859. They contacted many former members of the original Latter-Day Saint Church who were still living in southwestern Iowa and many who had returned from Utah and chose to locate in the area. The first Branch President was Calvin Beebe, with John Smith, Priest and Richard Y. Kelley, Deacon. Additional members were added in 1860 from the Zarahemla Branch in Wisconsin. They are in bold type. The branch was disbanded in 1866 but was later reincorporated. A church was dedicated in 1890 and eventually gained a new name, the Henderson Branch. The Branch became defunct in 1923 (1).
In 1942 the Harvey Bolton family purchased a farm upon which the church was located. A story was published in a local newspaper entitled “Bolton Family Farm Includes Former Mormon Church in the Shape of a ‘Big Red Barn (2).’”
