Daniel Brown originally moved to Calhoun township after a quarrel with President Brigham Young. He stayed in Iowa for more than a quarter of a century. One of his sons, James, had joined the Mormon Battalion and stayed in Utah. On two separate occasions, he visited his parents going to the perform missionary service. Daniel confessed to James during his first visit in 1858, that he wished he still had the faith he once possessed. He commended James's faith, but remained uncommitted to return to The Church of Jesus Christ until James's 1860, during James's second visit. Daniel was eventually re-baptized in 1874 and received his endowments in Utah (1).

Jesse C. and Charity Jane McCool Wills, were natives of Ohio and Michigan, respectively, and of Scotch-Irish extraction. They located in Harrison County in 1852. Jesse farmed and he moved to Missouri Valley and opened up a general store, and also bought grain, and was in the drug business, continuing until a few years before his death, which occurred in April, 1885. His good wife survived her companion until July 22, 1891. They were the parents of ten children, eight of whom are still living: Charles E., a resident of Nebraska; Mary, wife of S. A. Daniels, of Butler County, Iowa; Cyrus, deceased; William F., a resident of Mondamin; Erastus R., a resident of North Dakota; John M., a resident of Sioux City; Royal W., a resident of Wyoming; and Evan. Harris.
Five of the Wills boys were in the Civil War. Cyrus died from the effects of a saber wound; he was a member of Company H, of the First Iowa Cavalry, over whom he was Captain, and served two years and eight months. William was in Company H, Fifteenth Iowa Infantry, served three years and reenlisted. Charles, Erastus and John were all in Company C, Twenty-ninth Iowa Infantry, and served three years (2).
George W. Bingham was mentioned in the History of Harrison County, Iowa. He was an early teacher. No further information has been found.

In 1854, E. T. Hardin built a sawmill in Calhoun, Harrison County. He served in the Union army as a bugler. He was with the Twenty-ninth Iowa Volunteer Infantry throughout the entire four-year period of the war. His birth occurred in Hardin county, Kentucky, which county was named in honor of his family, a very prominent one of that state. He wedded Lentha A. Boynton in the state of Illinois. They had a family of five sons and three daughters.
